BKU threatens to block highways

LUDHIANA:Serving an ultimatum to the state government for payment of arrears of sugar cane growers worth more than Rs 100 crore direct into their bank accounts by August 28, the Lakhowal and Rajewal of Bharti Kisan Union (BKU) has threatened to hold ‘nakabandi’ on Kharar Chowk on August 29 on Chandigarh-Ludhiana and Chandigarh-Roparhighways.

Serving an ultimatum to the state government for payment of arrears of sugar cane growers worth more than Rs 100 crore direct into their bank accounts by August 28, the Lakhowal and Rajewal of Bharti Kisan Union (BKU) has threatened to hold ‘nakabandi’ on Kharar Chowk on August 29 on Chandigarh-Ludhiana and Chandigarh-Ropar highways.

This was announced in a joint statement by Shamsher Singh Gharooan, senior vice-president, Harinder Singh Lakhowal, general secretary of Lakhowal, Onkar Singh Agaul, secretary general and Gulzar Singh Ghanaur, general secretary (finance) of Rajewal faction of BKU here today.
