Health Dept gears up for election day

The Health Department is prepared for the polling day as all arrangements have been made in this regard.

Civil Surgeon Dr Parwinder Pal Singh Sidhu said on the polling day, all healthcare centres and dispensaries would remain open.

“In addition to this, poll officials will be provided with medical kits. First-aid and ORS packets will also be available at the booths,” he said. “Wheelchairs have also been kept at the polling booths for elderly and handicapped,” he added.

In addition to this, 108 ambulances will be on alert for the day.

Dr Sidhu said on the polling day, elderly should be made to sit under the shade and wait for their turn. “Don’t forget to carry a bottle of water and an umbrella,” said Dr Sidhu to the public.

Keep in mind before stepping out to vote

• Wear loose-fitting cotton clothes, sunglasses and a cap. 
• Stay hydrated and try to go early.
• Carry a water bottle and an umbrella. 
• Avoid taking kids along. 
• For elderly and kids, carry a wet towel, which can help in case of extreme heat. 

Prepared for National Dengue Day

Meanwhile, the Health Department is also gearing up to observe National Dengue Day on May 16. “Last time, during National Malaria Day, Ludhiana district stood first in taking up initiatives for observing the day,” said Civil Surgeon Dr Parwinder Pal Singh Sidhu. He added that a quiz contest would be held at different schools and educational material would also be distributed among the public. A meeting in this regard was held and all senior medical officers were present during the meeting.
