The family members of Kartar Singh Sumer, Punjabi poet, donated 251 books from the personal library of the poet to Punjabi Bhawan, today. Sumer’s daughter Suninder Kaur and his son Navroop Singh, handed over these books to the office bearers of Punjabi Sahit Academy at Punjabi Bhawan.

Karnal based Kartar Singh Sumer, a close friend of many Punjabi writers, including Bawa Balwant, Sujjan Singh, Ishwar Chitarkar and Pal Singh, wrote many books in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu. His first poem collection “Trivaini” was published in 1942. Sumer also contributed books, namely “Darwaza”, “Maut Ke Zindgi”, “Maalkaus”, “Sawargan De Angoor”, “Tuttan Di Aawaz”, “Baitho Tan Janiye” and “Baki Bachea Aadmi”, to Punjabi literature. Apart from this, he also wrote four books in Hindi and a gazal collection in Urdu. 

The Punjabi Sahit Academy president, Prof Ravinder Singh Bhatthal, thanked Sumer’s family for donating books from his personal library to Punjabi Bhawan. He said the availability of these books at the reference library of Punjabi Bhawan would prove quite beneficial for researcher scholars. Bhatthal also promised that they would request the Haryana Sahit Academy to publish some unpublished works of Kartar Singh Sumer. Prem Singh Bajaj, reference library director, also thanked the family for donating books to the library.
