Ludhiana, April 16

A father of two children was crushed to death by a rashly driven truck near Daba cut on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Ramdin, a resident of Dholewal Chowk.

Sources said the deceased was identified only after the police recovered a diary from his pocket, which helped the police in reaching the kin of the deceased. Amarjit Singh, Station House Officer at police division number 6, said the victim was on his way to work around 7 am, when he was hit by a speeding truck while he was crossing the road.

The SHO said the deceased’s face got crushed under the front tyre of the truck, due to which he could not be identified immediately. Later, a diary was recovered from his pocket, on which some phone numbers were written. The police then called on these numbers, which helped in identifying the victim.

The SHO said CCTV footages of the area were being checked to get a clue about the truck involved in the accident.

Sources said some eyewitnesses have also given the clue about the truck number and the police were trying to identify the truck owner.
