LUDHIANA: Nomination papers of 23 candidates were found valid during scrutiny today while the papers of five candidates were rejected.

Nomination papers of 23 candidates were found valid during scrutiny today while the papers of five candidates were rejected.

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said the names of candidates whose nomination papers had been rejected were Lal Chand Rao, Anupama (who had filed two nominations), Amanjot Kaur (two nominations), Hitesh Inder Singh and Rajinder Kumar Goyal.

The names of candidates of recognised national and state political parties whose nomination papers have been found valid are Sukhwinder Singh from the Nationalist Congress Party, Tej Pal Singh from the Aam Aadmi Party, Mahesh Inder Singh from the Shiromani Akali Dal and Ravneet Singh Bittu from the Indian National Congress.

The names of candidates of registered political parties whose nomination papers have been found valid are Amarjit Singh from the Bharatiya Lok Seva Dal, Simarjeet Singh Bains from the Lok Insaaf Party, Darshan Singh from the Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Party, Daljit Singh from the Peoples Party of India (Secular), Davinder Bhagria from the Hindustan Shakti Sena, Dildar Singh from the Ambedkarite Party of India, Pardeep Singh from the Samaj Adhikar Kalyan Party, Baljit Singh from the Bharat Prabhat Party, Baldev Raj Katna from the Nationalist Justice Party, Brijesh Kumar from the Peoples Party of India (Democratic), Bintu Kumar Taank from the Ambedkar National Congress, Mohd Naseem Ansari from the Rashtriya Sahara Party, Rajinder Kumar from the Hindu Samaj Party and Ram Singh Deepak from the Bahujan Mukti Party.

Besides, Independents whose nomination papers have been found valid are Surinder Kaur, Jasdeep Singh, Jai Parkash Jain, Mahinder Singh and Ravinder Pal Singh.

Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said the last date for withdrawal of candidature would be before 3 pm on May 2. The nomination papers can be withdrawn by the candidate or his election agent or his proposer. The polling for the Ludhiana Parliamentary constituency would be held from 7 am to 6 pm on May 19.
