PAU inks pact to end stubble menace

LUDHIANA: Aiming at checking stubble burning meance in the state, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, inked a memorandum of agreement (MoAs) with five companies.

Aiming at checking stubble burning meance in the state, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, inked a memorandum of agreement (MoAs) with five companies.

Dr Navtej Singh Bains, Director of Research, PAU, signed the pact on behalf of the varsity with KS Matharu Agriculture Works, Hathur, Bathinda, Jassa Singh and Company, GehriMandi, Amritsar, KR Agriculture Works, Handiaya Road, Barnala, Punjab Workshop, Nidhanwala, Moga, and Ladal Agricultural Works, Bareta, Mansa, for commercialisation of the PAU Super Straw Management System (SMS) technology.

Dr Bains lauded the proprietors for sharing responsibility of spreading environment friendly paddy straw management technology on a large scale.

Dr SS Chahal, Adjunct Professor, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell said the PAU has signed 116 MoAs so far for the commercialisation of PAU Super SMS technology.

Dr Manpreet Singh, Assistant Agricultural Engineer, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering said the machine will facilitate the operations of other in-situ straw management machinery like PAU happy seeder and mould board plough which will ultimately check paddy straw burning and help farmers to enhance soil productivity with in-situ paddy straw management.

Dr Rajesh Goyal, Assistant Engineer, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering said the PAU Super SMS attachment is becoming popular among large number of farmers because of its use with combine harvesters for cutting, chopping and uniformly spreading loose straw while harvesting paddy.
