Action would be taken against those, who bursted crackers after 9.30 pm, said Kahan Singh Pannu, chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB).

He said, “This decision has been taken in wake of the Punjab and Haryana High Court ruling that bursting of crackers will only be allowed for three hours in the evening from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm on the eve of Diwali.”

“Sound of no crackers should exceed 125 dB, beyond which it has deleterious effect on ill persons, birds, pregnant women and young children,” he added.

When asked what penalty could be imposed on offenders in these cases, he said action could be taken under different sections including the IPC, Contempt of Court or under the PPCB rules.
