Ludhiana, January 20
The city police have booked a probationary officer of the Punjab and Sind Bank, Saban Bazaar, for hacking the official email ID of the bank. He has been identified as Ankit Anand, a resident of Sector 7, Rohini, New Delhi. He is yet to be arrested.
The complainant in the case is the lead manager of the bank branch. According to the complainant, on January 24 last year when he tried to access the bank’s official ID, the old password did not work. Suspecting some foul play, he lodged a complaint with the police.
As the cyber unit of the police started investigation into the matter, they found that a recovery email, put up by the suspect after modifying the detail of the bank’s ID password, belonged to a probationary officer of the bank, Ankit Anand. Even a mobile number registered in his name was found attached with the email which established his role in hacking the email ID.
After the investigation, the case was sent to the DA Legal for his opinion. The DA Legal observed Ankit hacked the email ID of the bank which caused a lot of inconvenience to the bank officials in performing daily bank routine. Hence an offence under Section 65.66 C of the IT Act is made out and an FIR can be registered against the accused. After getting the DA Legal’s opinion, the Commissioner of Police ordered registration of an FIR against the bank employee.
Police officials said once the suspect was arrested, the police would try to find out why the bank’s employee hacked the email ID.
