Second leg of global kabaddi league kicks off at PAU today

LUDHIANA: The stage is all set for the second leg matches of the inaugural edition of “Global Kabaddi League” which would be played at the Punjab Agricultural University from October 24 to 29.

The stage is all set for the second leg matches of the inaugural edition of “Global Kabaddi League” which would be played at the Punjab Agricultural University from October 24 to 29.

On Wednesay the first match would be played between Punjab Warriors and Maple Leafs, Canada; while the second game would be held between California Eagles and Delhi Tigers.

Member of Parliament from Ludhiana and organising committee chairman Ravneet Singh Bittu said in total six teams, including Haryana Lions and Black Panthers would be battling it out for top honours.

The first leg matches of the league were held at Jalandhar while the third and final phase would be conducted at Mohali, he said.

“Two matches will be played daily except for October 27 and 28 when three matches will be organised. The winners will get Rs 1 crore while the first runners-up will get a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh and the second runners-up will pocket Rs 25 lakh,” said the MP.

The main attraction of this league is that 70 per cent players are first timers who would showcase their skills. Bittu said, “The league is being organised under the Mission Tandarust Punjab to encourage youngsters towards sports and keep them away from drugs.”

The first match will start at 5 pm and entry will be free for spectators.

Ludhiana Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, Iqbal Singh Sandhu, Additional Deputy Commissioner, organisers Amarjeet Singh Tutt and Ranbir Singh, legal advisor, Harpreet Singh Sandhu, Gurpreet Singh Gogi, president, District Congress Committee (Urban) and Yogesh Chhabra were also present on the occasion.
