Smuggler held with 500-gram heroin

Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday nabbed a drug smuggler with 500-gram heroin. He has been identified as Ranjit Singh, alias Mani (24), of Dholewal.

In charge of STF Harbans Singh said acting on a tip-off, a naka was set up at New Moti Nagar. A biker was signalled to stop for checking. During search of his belongings, the heroin was recovered.

Harbans said Ranjit earlier worked at some factory in the Samrala Chowk area. He told the police that he was bringing the contraband from a Delhi-based Nigerian person. He has been into this illegal trade for the past one year.

Says he was let off by Delhi cops for bribe

In charge of STF Harbans Singh said the accused was once intercepted by the Delhi police at a naka on the Karnal road where drugs were also recovered from him. But he was let off by the Delhi police after taking Rs 90,000 from him as bribe. Harbans Singh said the STF would write to the Delhi police on the matter.
