Power supply to villages was disconnected during Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s roadshow today. The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) authorities claimed that the power supply was snapped due to security reasons.

The Chief Minister’s visit proved a boon for the villages on the roadshow route as it stirred the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited into action. Sources said the precariously hanging cables at several locations were removed or corrected ahead of the roadshow. Besides, tree branches were axed to remove obstructions on the roadshow route.

Capt Amarinder Singh’s turban had come off after he accidentally hit a rope during the roadshow at a village in the Dakha constituency on Tuesday. A man from the security staff was sitting atop a bus specially modified for the Chief Minister’s roadshow to clear any obstructions in 21 villages of the Dakha constituency today.

According to information, the power supply to Gujjarwal, Jodhan, Sarabha, Jassowal, Kular and other villages was shut down.

Superintending Engineer of PSPCL Jagdev Singh Hans said: “The power supply to villages was shut down during the CM’s roadshow due to security reasons. It was restored after the roadshow.”

An Independent candidate, Baldev Singh, alias Dev Sarabha, said: “The dangling wires in streets as well as fields in many villages have been a major issue. Whenever any religious procession is organised in villages, the PSPCL never deploy its staff to correct the dangling cables. However, the PSPCL acted swiftly to remove loose cables just for the Chief Minister’s roadshow. The safety of common people was always ignored. The PSPCL should find a permanent solution to the issue of dangling or low-lying cables in streets as well as in the fields.”
