The Jodhan policewoman suicide case took another turn after the Ludhiana (rural) police launched a hunt for miscreants, who assaulted government officials performing their duty and damaged public property after mingling with protesters, demanding justice for the victim’s family.

At least two separate cases were registered against more than 250 unknown miscreants under Sections 353, 186, 427, 506, 148 149 of the IPC at the Jodhan police station and 294, 185, 427, 506 of the IPC at the Sadhar police station.

Senior medical officer, Civil Hospital Sadhar, Dr Nina Thakra, had accused more than two dozen miscreants of abusing the staff conducting postmortem on the body of deceased Constable Amrit Pal Kaur on June 11 and damaging property of the hospital.

On the other hand Havaldar Vijay Kumar, posted at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Sadar police station, under Nawanshahr district, had lodged complaint against 250 unknown persons for allegedly attacking a police party on duty and smashing panes of the vehicle carrying them, besides injuring at least three policemen on duty.

Policemen led by Randhir Singh of Sadhar police and Rupinder Singh of Jodhan police have already initiated the process for identifying the suspects, who would be named and arrested for their alleged involvement, said the police.

Investigations revealed that none of the outfits (claiming to have demanded action against the accused in the suicide case registered at Jodhan police station on the fateful day) came forward to vouch for the unknown suspects booked under the said two cases. Sources said investigating officials had collected video clippings from residents of the region and CCTV footages from various establishments of the area.

Confirming registration of cases against a large number of unknown miscreants, the Dakha DSP, Jasmeet Singh Sahiwal, said the police was committed to get justice for the family of the deceased.
