The Minister for Local Bodies has said even an inch of MC land will not be allowed to be misused by anyone and this was 3,000 square feet of land on prime location of Ferozepur Road, which will be acquired by the MC soon.

In a telephonic conversation with The Tribune, the minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu said he was getting all details of the matter and will make sure that a boundary wall is constructed on this huge chunk of land, which was at present being used by a private player.

“If that land belongs to the MC, then nobody has any right to use it for other purposes. We will construct a boundary wall and plant trees all over,” said Sidhu.

On being asked about the “illegal” floor where a pub was being run, Sidhu said once he got the details, action would be taken as per law and MC guidelines, as “nobody is above the Law”.

Yesterday, Lok Insaaf Party Simarjit Singh Bains had alleged that 3,000 square yard of land outside Grandwalk Mall was encroached upon by Gurdeep Singh Jujhar of Fastway Cable Network. He had also alleged that the sixth floor of the mall was being run in an illegal manner and for that no approval was taken from the MC authorities.

Jujhar said the chunk of land was being maintained by him and the MC could take its possession. As far as approval to the sixth floor was concerned, a file had already moved to the MC for the same.
