Expressing shock over the reported abduction and forced conversion of a Sikh girl to Islam in Nankana Sahib, Pakistan, Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh today called upon Pakistan PM Imran Khan to take firm action against those involved. He sought the intervention of both Indian and Pakistan governments in the matter. He urged External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar to take up the issue with his counterpart in Islamabad immediately.

Expressing anger, Capt Amarinder said those responsible for the crime should not be allowed to get away. "Religion is a personal matter and forcible conversion has no place in any society, " he asserted.

"Shocking incident of a Sikh girl being kidnapped & forced to convert to Islam in Nankana Sahib, Pakistan. Call upon @ImranKhanPTI to take firm and immediate action against the perpetrators. Request @DrSJaishankar to strongly take up the issue with his counterpart at the earliest," he tweeted.

The abducted Sikh girl's family alleged she was forced to marry a Muslim boy after being converted to Islam. A purported video of the girl’s wedding had gone viral on the social media.
