Chinmayanand grilled, put under house arrest

Lucknow, September 13

An SIT today interrogated BJP leader Chinmayanand for seven hours in connection with its probe into a postgraduate student’s rape allegation and virtually put him under house arrest.

After questioning the complainant, her friend and a college principal, the Supreme Court-appointed SIT zeroed in on the main accused. The SIT had on Thursday night summoned Chinmayanand to the police lines for interrogation. Later, the 72-year-old former Union Minister was brought back to his residence in Mumukshu Ashram under heavy security. The SIT sealed his room in the ashram, which is likely to be examined for evidence of the charges of sexual exploitation lodged by the law student. — TNS
