The Uttar Pradesh Government today charged suspended BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, paediatrician Dr Kafeel Khan of wrongly claiming to have got a clean chit in the death of infants during the August 2019 oxygen shortage.

Principal Secretary (Medical Education) Rajneesh Dube claimed the probe was still continuing against Dr Kafeel Khan on seven points. After the death of infants at the BRD Medical College, investigations found three doctors guilty. They have been suspended and are facing departmental probes, he said.

Dube claimed Dr Kafeel Khan had been publicising the probe report in the media in a wrong manner as the probe against him was still on and he had been given no clean chit. Dr Kafeel Khan had defended himself saying the probe had absolved him on three counts related to the incident at the BRD Medical College on August 10, 11 and 12, 2017, during which time around 70 infants died due to the shortage of oxygen supply.

“As I was not the decision maker, I was obviously not involved in administrative decisions as regards purchase of oxygen,” he claimed.
