Thousands of people on Tuesday assembled on roadsides in different segments of Sriganganagar to form a 175-km-long human chain that touched Rojadi, the last village of the border district.

The programme titled “Shahadat ko salaam” was a state government initiative to cover all border districts in the desert state but it, by and large, emerged as a BJP show, eying the Vidhan Sabha elections expected by the end of this year. A 110-ft-high National Flag was hoisted using a remote control at Bharat Mata Chowk near Sukhadia Circle.

Minister of State of Mines Surinderpal Singh, Lok Sabha member Nihal Chand Meghwal, legislators Kamini Jindal and Gurjant Singh Brar, Improvement Trust chairman Sanjay Mahipal, Municipal Corporation chairman Ajay Chandak and all aspirants for BJP ticket in the coming elections participated in the event.
