ROPAR: The police have arrested five persons, including a woman, her husband and her father-in-law, allegedly for drug peddling at Chamkaur Sahib on Wednesday.



ROPAR: The police have arrested five persons, including a woman, her husband and her father-in-law, allegedly for drug peddling at Chamkaur Sahib on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Major Singh, his son Sukhwinder Singh and daughter-in-law Sukhwinder Kaur, all residents of Bhurade village near Chamkaur Sahib. The other two accused are Sukhwinder Singh of Raiwada village near Chamkaur Sahib and another Sukhwinder Singh of Doomchheri village. SSP Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu said 15 gm of heroin, 125-gm intoxicant powder and 15-kg poppy husk was recovered from the accused. The woman's husband is already five cases under the NDPS Act  and has been declared a proclaimed offender. TNS

Prisoner threatens trader, booked

Ferozepur: The police have booked gangster Lalit, alias Lalli, on the charge of threatening a local businessman from inside the Bathinda jail. Sukhwinder Singh and his brother Davinder Singh lodged a police complaint on Tuesday, alleging that Lalit threatened them not to record their statement in a 2013 case of vandalism and assault. Subsequently, the police booked Lalit and five others - identified as Dharmu, Nimma, Angrej, Kallu and Tejinder Jang - as they, too, have been threatening the brothers. They are booked under Sections 506 and 120-B of the IPC and the Information Technology Act. Sources said the Bathinda jail authorities have seized a mobile phone from Lalli and another case under the Prisons Act was slapped against him. TNS

Illegal liquor seized

Moga: The police seized 360 bottles of liquor here on Tuesday night, but the smugglers managed to escape. A team of the local police raided the house of Navtej Singh in the Sardar Nagar locality. During search, 360 bottles of liquor meant for illegal sale was recovered from the house. Navtej, who was present in the house during the raid, gave a slip to the cops and ran away from the spot. Bathinda: HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL), joint venture of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Mittal Energy Ltd, Singapore, which operates the 11.3-million tonne Guru Gobind Singh Refinery in Bathinda, has received a global honour of “CSR Programme of the Year” award during the Petroleum Economist Awards, 2017, held at London on Tuesday evening.
