8 detained for bid to promote ‘Laxmi Coin’

MUKTSAR: The police detained eight persons today for allegedly holding a meeting to promote “Laxmi Coin” – a website selling cryptocurrency in the shape of a gold coin with an image of goddess Lakshmi embossed on it.

The police detained eight persons today for allegedly holding a meeting to promote “Laxmi Coin” – a website selling cryptocurrency in the shape of a gold coin with an image of goddess Lakshmi embossed on it.

A large number of people had gathered at a private resort on the Kotkapura road to attend the meeting, but the police after getting a tip-off conducted a raid and rounded up the organisers. A resident of Kanianwali village in Muktsar district was rounded up from the spot. He named some of his associates staying in a hotel. Thereafter, they were also detained. All of them belonged to Hanumangarh district in Rajasthan.

Periwinkle Grewal, SHO, Sadar Muktsar police station, said, “Some persons have been detained and questioned. If they are found involved in any illegal trade, a case will be registered against them.”
