LUDHIANA: An architect was shot dead by an unidentified motorcycle-borne assailant in the Dugri area of the city on Thursday morning.

Ludhiana, October 11

An architect was shot dead by an unidentified motorcycle-borne assailant in the Dugri area of the city on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Mandeep Kumar Bansal, a resident of Dhandra Road. He was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill along with senior police officials visited the crime scene and initiated the investigation. The incident took place around 11 am when the victim was at a construction site in Phase-1, Dugri. The motorcycle-borne attacker arrived there and opened fire on him. Sources said the assailant fired five bullets at the victim. In the footage of CCTV cameras installed nearby, the attacker was seen fleeing the spot after the crime. His motive was yet to be established.

The police have registered a case of murder at Dugri police station. They have obtained the CCTV footage and scanning it for clues. The accused will be caught soon, claimed Gill.

This is the third case of shooting in the city in last four days. Earlier, a police constable on duty outside the DMCH was shot in the leg by a youth on Monday. A day later, two workers of a private cash collection agency were shot at near Radisson Hotel by two persons, who looted Rs 10 lakh from them. The police are yet to crack any of these cases.
