Parmeshwari Devi (82), mother of former Congress MLA from Fazilka Mohinder Kumar Rinwa, has been unanimously elected sarpanch of Bareka village after no one filed nomination papers against her. Her husband late Madan Gopal Rinwa had remained the village sarpanch for 20 years and also former chairman of Khuin Sarvar block samiti.
The family had control over the village for the last five decades as besides Madan Gopal, his elder son Rajinder Rinwa, younger son Vijay Rinwa, grandsons Sidharath Rinwa, zila parishad member and Rohit Rinwa also remained sarpanches of the village. Parmeshwari Devi is sister-in-law of former Agriculture Minister Chaudhar Kanshi Ram Rinwa.
“In these elections, members of the family unanimously decided to elect the eldest member of the family and no one opposed her in the village too,” said former Parliamentary Secretary Mohinder Kumar Rinwa.
