Chadha sugar mill under ED scanner

JALANDHAR: The regional office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought information regarding the ongoing case against Chadha Sugar Industries Pvt Ltd, Gurdaspur, post the recent spill of molasses.

The regional office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought information regarding the ongoing case against Chadha Sugar Industries Pvt Ltd, Gurdaspur, post the recent spill of molasses.

ED officials have written to the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) chairman seeking information in the case to examine it from the angle of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

A communiqué was sent on Friday from the Enforcement Directorate office to the PPCB which read, “It is learnt from public sources that action under various provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act has been initiated against Chadha Sugar Industries by the PPCB.

Suitable directions may be passed to the officer to forward the details of the case registered and penalty imposed along with connected documents and details of mechanical/civil/environmental lapse by the company.”
