The Fazilka district police today claimed to have seized 220 sedative tablets by intercepting Jalalabad residents Sunil Kumar, Sajan Kumar, Sandeep Kumar and Kuldeep Singh. The police also seized 10 kg poppy husk from Ashok Kumar and Maan Singh of Fazilka.
The police raided a house in Krishna Nagari in Abohar that is considered as hub of smuggled liquor and seized 360 litre Haryana-made liquor, but could not nab suspects Amit Kumar Rubbal, Hans Raj and Gulab. However, they were booked under the Excise Act.
Lovepreet Singh was nabbed with 9.3 kg poppy husk in Kheruwala village, his mother Saroj had earlier been nabbed in Abohar a few years ago for smuggling opium.
The Hanumangarh police nabbed Mohammad Ashaq and Ninderpal Swami with 140 gm opium, Nathu Singh and Sher Singh with 4.5 kg poppy husk. The police said Gobind Saharan, who was arrested from Nagore, has confessed to his involvement in supplying opium to the border district and some segments in Punjab. He had been arrested earlier under the Narcotic Drugs and other Psychotropic Substances Act, but got bail.
