Hardening their stance against VB officers, who allegedly harassed Food and Supply Officer (FSO) Kamaldeep Singh owing to which he committed suicide on Wednesday by jumping into canal in Patiala, Food and Civil Supply (FCS) Department officers boycotted their work across the state today.

Employees of other government purchase agencies said they would join the strike from Monday during a four-hour rally here today.

Purchase of paddy is scheduled to start from October 1. However, the employees have announced to boycott the purchase, if the state government fails to take action against the accused officers.

Sangrur Deputy Commissioner APS Virk said he had asked the state Vigilance Bureau Secretary to look into the matter, after the protesters met him.

“All employees of our department have boycotted the work to protest against the accused officers. Employees of other agencies, including Punsup, Markfed and Punjab Agro, have announced to boycott their work from Monday. Pensioners will also support our agitation,” said Gurinder Rana, Chairperson, Food and Civil Supply Inspectors’ Union, Punjab.

The protesters criticised the working of the Vigilance Bureau and accused VB officers of demanding money from them and harassing them.
