Kashmiri student arrested from Bathinda varsity

BATHINDA: A Kashmiri student was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday from the Central University of Punjab (CUP), Bathinda.

A Kashmiri student was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday from the Central University of Punjab (CUP), Bathinda.

Bathinda SSP Nanak Singh said the J&K Police arrested the student, named Hilal Ahmed, who was pursuing M.Ed at the university. He is a student of the 2017-2019 batch.

The police had arrest warrants against Hilal, a resident of Chakura village in Pulwama district, the SSP said.

Sources said Hilal was associated with the Islami Jammait Tulba, a branch of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). A case has reportedly been registered against him under TADA at Banihal police station in Pulwama district, but it has not been confirmed yet.

Police sources said Hilal was linked to terror activities and was involved in terror funding in Jammu and Kashmir.
