Faridkot: A CIA team of the Jaito police on Sunday arrested two cousins of a Kotkapura-based Congress leader, who is in liquor business, for their alleged involvement in an opium smuggling case.

A CIA team of the Jaito police on Sunday arrested two cousins of a Kotkapura-based Congress leader, who is in liquor business, for their alleged involvement in an opium smuggling case. The police have seized 1.5 kg opium from the brothers — Randeep Kumar  and Sandeep Kumar Malhotra — of Lajpat Nagar, Kotkapura.  Probe revealed that the accused were "importing" opium from MP and distributing it among local consumers. They used to digitally transfer funds to the supplier, who, in return, dispatches the opium. TNS

Online registration for admission to Sainik schools

The Sainik Schools Society has invited applications from students desirous of taking admission in all 31 Sainik schools in Classes VI and IX for the academic session 2020-21. According to an official spokesperson of the defence services, the admission in these schools for both classes was made on the basis of entrance examination, which will be held on January 5, 2020. Officials told to strengthen canal irrigation system

As the level of subsoil water is on the decline, the conservation of water is the need of the hour and every section of society must contribute by ensuring its proper utilization, said Deputy Commissioner Dr Parshant Kumar Goel, while addressing district officials, representatives of educational institutions and NGOs, while launching an awareness campaign on water conservation on Sunday. He directed the officials to install rainwater harvesting system in all government educational institutes, buildings and parks. TNS

PSIEC to hold special camp on August 14

Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation Limited (PSIEC) will conduct a special camp on August 14 here to dispose of pending cases of transfer of plots at different focal points. Announcing this, Industries and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora stated that the camp would also ensure to facilitate plot holders in obtaining clearances in pursuit of implementation of their projects. He urged all stakeholders to visit PSIEC headquarters in Chandigarh on August 14 for facilitating disposal of cases of transfer of plots. TNS
