Harjinder Singh, resident of Mamdot, complained to the police that his phone was hacked by a Pakistani caller.
He said he received a call from an anonymous number starting from +0092 (Pakistan ISD code) during which the caller demanded the OTP he had received.
“I was told that I have won Rs 25,000. I need to send them the OTP received on my phone, following which the money will be deposited in my account,” said Harjinder. “Feeling suspicious, I refused to give the OTP, but they continued to call me repeatedly asking for the OTP,” he said. “In the evening my kids unknowingly provided them the OTP. Next morning when I checked my phone, I realised that Whatsapp on my mobile was not working and it had probably been hacked,” said Harjinder. “Later I brought the matter into the notice of the police, who told me that my mobile was hacked by the Pakistani caller,” said Harjinder. Ranjit Singh, SHO, Mamdot, said the matter was being investigated.
