Chairperson of the Punjab State Women Commission Manisha Gulati on Wednesday complained to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh about the alleged misbehaviour by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mohali.

Upset over the alleged treatment meted out to her by the IPS officer when she called him regarding a physical abuse complaint filed by a woman, the chairperson is learnt to have gone to meet the Chief Minister regarding her complaint.

Official sources said the chairperson in her complaint had stated that the commission was meant to uplift the dignity of women, but Wednesday’s incident spoke volumes about the plight of women in the state.

The chairperson had called the SSP regarding the complaint lodged by the women with the Mohali police being not redressed.

When contacted, Manisha Gulati said she had complained to the Chief Minister, but refused to divulge details of her complaint. On the other hand, SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal denied having misbehaved with the chairperson. He said the chairperson had called up regarding a complaint lodged by a woman about her physical abuse.
