Ludhiana, December 6

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Head Constable Daljit Singh was cremated at his native Jangpur village near Mullanpur here on Friday. He was among the six jawans killed in a fratricide incident on Wednesday. ITBP personnel paid tributes to Daljit Singh.

Daljit Singh was posted in the naxal-affected Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh. His mortal remains were taken to the village on Friday morning. He is survived by his wife, a 13-year-old daughter and a nine-year-old son.

A pall of gloom descended the village when the news about his death reached the villagers on Wednesday afternoon. The family members had learnt about his death from a web portal. The deceased’s relative Jasbir Singh said the body reached the house around 9.30 am and it was cremated around 11.15 am.

Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, who is the cousin of Daljit Singh, attended the cremation. Those present to pay their last respects included Capt Sandeep Sandhu, Political Adviser to the Chief Minister, SDM Amarinder Singh Malhi and Inspector Prem Singh, among others.
