With SAD suspending Pargat Singh from the party on Tuesday, the World Kabaddi League (WKL) franchise owners have cut ties with the former Indian hockey captain.

Singh, who was the league commissioner of WKL, has been replaced by hotelier and member of the Punjab NRI commission Kamaljit Hayer.

Singh is expected to be chucked out of the organising committee of the forthcoming World Kabaddi Cup. “This time he will not be a part of the tournament as he is a hockey player and has no concern with kabaddi,” said Punjab Rural Development Minister Sikander Singh Maluka.

Pargat Singh is also the secretary of Hockey Punjab, while deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal is the president.

“I will continue to retain my post as secretary general of Hockey Punjab and no one can force me to resignation,” Singh told The Tribune.

“SAD has used my sports expertise and my popularity only for political gains and has never thought of using it to promote sports in the state. I was feeling suffocated every day. I am a relieved person now. I will continue in politics and keep promoting sports in the state.”
