FOR sometime past the outbreak of dysentery after the rains in the Poona city has been reported. The water supply was suspected to be contaminated and an enquiry was started. After bacteriological investigation conducted for nearly two years it was found that the tank, eleven miles away from which water was brought through an open canal, contained fecal matter and bleaching powder is now used to disinfect the water supply, Similar examination will be made of the Ahmedabad water supply which is likewise suspected. It is regrettable that modern water supply schemes are in many places defective.
