Kashmir State''s bereavement

THE Crown Princess of Jammu and Kashmir State, whose sad and untimely death has plunged the Ruling Family and the whole State into mourning, was the wife of Rajkumar Hari Singh ji, heir-apparent of the Kashmir gaddi. The deceased Rani was niece of the present Ruling Chief of Dharmpur in Rajputana. The marriage took place at Rajkot in Kathiawar only in May, 1913, and was the first instance of a Northern Indian Rajput Prince marrying in a Rajputana Ruling Family. The courts and offices in Jammu will remain closed till after the kirya ceremony which takes place on the 9th January. There is to be no dastarbandi on the occasion. The manifestation of popular grief and sympathy with the Ruling Family is to be found in the fact that there is a hartal, general closing of shops and cessation of business, in Jammu since Monday afternoon.
