3 held for duping people

Bathinda, January 24

The police have registered a case against four persons, who were duping people on the pretext of depositing Rs2,000 in their bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. They were collecting money in the name of form fee from innocent people.

An independent councilor, Gurdeep Singh, and husband of woman councillor, Gurmail Singh, are among those booked in the case. After receiving a complaint, the police arrested three persons while filling forms. They were presented in the court and sent on a judicial remand.

SI Balwant Singh of Kotfatta police station said, in a complaint, Kulwinder Sharma, a resident of ward No.15, had told the police that he ran a common service centre in Kotfatta. Kulwinder alleged that Gurdeep Singh had told poor people living in Kotfatta village that by filling some forms, available at the house of Gurmail Singh, they would get Rs2,000 in their bank accounts. According to the complainant, when he probed Gurdeep’s claim, he got to know that Karan Kumar and Satnam Singh of Maiserkhana village, Gurmail Singh and Gurdeep Singh were taking Rs50 from every person willing to fill the form under the PM-KISAN scheme. The scheme, however, is only for farmers and landless people are not eligible for it, the complainant said.

The SI further said they had arrested three persons, Gurdeep Singh, Karan Kumar and Satnam Singh, while Gurmail Singh managed to flee. — TNS
