Barnala man comes for baptism, commits suicide

Bathinda, July 19

A man in his thirties allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the third storey of Bhai Mani Singh inn late evening on Wednesday at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo.

ASI Kulwinder Singh said the deceased had been identified as Avtar Singh of Barnala.

The deceased was taken to a hospital in Talwandi Sabo but he was referred to the Civil Hospital in Bathinda where he was declared brought dead. The police have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC.

Jagjit Singh, father of the accused, said, “Avtar had been mentally upset for quite some time. He expressed wish to get baptised at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib on Wednesday. I brought him here to fulfil his wish. After taking meal at the community kitchen (langar), we went to the Bhai Mani Singh inn to take rest. But Avtar woke up in the night and went outside. After some time, we heard some noise. When we moved outside, we found that he had jumped from the third storey of the building.” — TNS
