Bathinda, July 17

The Punjab State Education Board (PSEB) has directed the schools under the “Padho Punjab Padaho Punjab-Math” programme to organise Math Fair in all the middle, high and senior secondary schools of the state. All the mathematics teachers were imparted two-day training for this event as well in the first week of July.

As per the schedule for the fair released by the PSEB, the fair will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be pre-fair, under which for four days maths teachers would take four continuous periods daily and would prepare them for the fair, which would be conducted on the fifth day.

Schools have been given 12 days’ time to conduct this fair in their schools and they have been instructed to conduct this fair by July 28.

In this fair, it is mandatory for each student of Classes VI, VII, VIII, IX and X to participate and it would be held jointly. If the number of students in the school of this fair is more than 500, then this would be organised for two continuous days.

As per the total number of students, separate groups should be made and it is mandatory to keep one student each from Classes VI to VIII in a group. Even while making grouping for Classes IX and X students as well one student from Classes IX and X should be taken in a group.

The model prepared by each student group would be shared with other groups and students. The fair would be conducted at the school level only and inside the school campus only.

It is also directed that the school heads would invite the parents of students, prominent people in villages, SMC committee members, nearby school students and students of other classes in their schools.

It is also directed that for the pre fair, a team comprising school head, maths teacher and one more teacher of any other subject should be constituted. They would give time to students for four days before the fair to prepare their activities for the fair.

Schools have also been told to keep feedback copy on the day of the fair and should take feedback from the visitors who will come to see the fair in the school.

It is pertinent to mention that the decision to organise the fair was taken by the department to motivate students to learn maths before this year’s result, it was seen that students are not doing well in the maths subject in government schools in the state.
