Bathinda, May 24

Three SAD workers were injured in a clash that took place among Akali Dal and Congress workers at Malkana village in Talwandi Sabo on Thursday night.

The incident took place when SAD workers were celebrating party candidate Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s victory in the village.

The injured, identified as Sewak Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Jagdish Singh, were taken to the Civil Hospital in Talwandi Sabo.

When former president of the Rama Truck Union Rampal Singh Malkana reached the hospital to enquire about the SAD workers, he was also allegedly attacked on Thursday night. Rampal said, “On Thursday night when I reached the Civil Hospital to enquire about the condition of the SAD workers, Congress workers attacked me. I managed to escape unhurt, but my associate Pargat Singh received injuries.”

He said the accused also took away his Boloro car, which was recovered on Friday morning from a nearby area in a damaged condition.

A SAD leader alleged that CCTV cameras installed in the hospital had been captured in them. As the attackers are associated with the ruling party, the police have not recorded the statement of the injured so far, he added.

Former MLA Jeetmohinder Singh Sidhu also reached the Civil Hospital to meet the injured. He said Congress halqa in-charge Khushbaz Jattana was trying to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in Talwandi Sabo. He said it would have adverse affect in the future.

Sukhdev Singh, SHO, Talwandi Sabo police station, said “We came to know about the incident at night. The police are probing the matter. The ASI has gone to the High Court for some work due to which the statement of victim has not been recorded. After registering the statement, a case will be registered.”

It is learnt that Congress workers have also been admitted to a hospital in Bathinda.
