Bathinda, October 25
The district administration organised a two-day exhibition “Bathinda Haat” where students of the ITI college and trainees of the Rural Self-Employment Training Institute (RSETI) displayed handicrafts and cloth designs at Dunes Club here on Thursday.
Clothes with phulkari, painting (cloth and ladies suit), embroidery, jewellery, accessories and handicrafts were the main attractions of the exhibition. It witnessed a sizable footfall as a number of city residents visited and purchased different items on display. Keeping in view the festive season, students displayed a number of items for Diwali and Karvachauth.
Farmers put up a counter where pesticide-free organic food items such as honey, jaggery, mustard oil, flour rice, vegetables and pulses, among other items, were displayed.
RSETI put up a counter to sensitise residents of the city to the digital mode of payment and other digitised banking services. A stall for henna and nail art was also set up in view of karvachauth.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Sakshi Sahwney, who presided over the event as the chief guest, said, “Under the state government’s ‘ghar ghar rozgar’ initiative, students of ITI and NGOs, women adept in different skills made and displayed their items. This platform would not only boost their confidence levels, but also provide ample opportunity to earn money making them self-sufficient.”
