Chandigarh: A bike-borne miscreant snatched a purse from a student of SD College, Sector 32. The complainant, Dechen (20), was returning to her house in Sector 32 from the market on January 19 when the miscreant snatched her purse containing Rs4,000, a phone, an ATM card and documents. TNS

ASI caught taking bribe

Dera Bassi: An ASI posted at the Dera Bassi police station was caught while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 on Monday. Vigilance officials said a trap was laid to arrest ASI Onkar Singh on a complaint of Raju, a resident of Dera Bassi. Raju had registered a dowry harassment complaint with the SSP, Mohali, last year against his daughter’s in-laws. The ASI contacted the complainant and allegedly demanded the bribe to strengthen his case. OC

Minor raped, suspect held

Ambala: The police have arrested Viplav for raping a minor girl and threatening her with dire consequences. According to the police, a woman reported to the Naraingarh women police station that the suspect had raped her minor daughter and threatened her with dire consequences. The suspect was produced before a court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. TNS

Three arrested for murder bid

Ambala: The police have arrested three persons – Gurdeep Singh, Jasbir Singh, alias Nonu, and Jashandeep Singh of Ambala – for threatening a local resident after hitting his motorcycle with a speeding car. According to the police, Gurjeet Singh of Parao had reported to the police that the suspects hit his bike with a speeding car near traffic police post in Ambala City on January 12 and later threatened him with dire consequences. The suspects were sent to 14-day judicial remand. TNS

Woman killed in road accident

Ambala: A 65-year-old woman from Karnal died after being run over by a bus near the Ambala railway station. According to information, Sheela came from Karnal in a Haryana Roadways bus. When the victim was alighting from the bus near the railway station, the driver started driving the vehicle. Following which, the woman was run over by the bus. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, officials said. A case has been registered against the bus driver. TNS
