53K take online exam on Day 3

Chandigarh: As many as 53,400 students appeared on the third day of the ongoing Panjab University online semester examinations. A total of 32 question papers were uploaded in the morning slot wherein approximately 11,500 students appeared. As many as 17 question papers were uploaded in the evening slot wherein 41,900 students appeared. TNS

Dates for BEd form submission out

Chandigarh: Panjab University has announced the last dates for the submission of examination forms for BEd (second semester only). The forms can be submitted without late fee before July 20, with late fee of Rs2,075 till July 27, with late fee of Rs6,075 till August 11, with late fee of Rs11,075 till August 26 and with late fee of Rs22,075 till September 6. Students can also visit the university website www.puchd.ac.in for more information. TNS

MC panel okays renovation works

Chandigarh: The Road Committee of the Municipal Corporation on Wednesday approved a rough cost estimate for repair and renovation of the Bahai Cemetery in Sector 25. The projected cost for the work is Rs 9.59 lakh. The panel also approved special repair of civil dispensary, Sector 49, at an estimated cost of Rs7.09 lakh. TNS

Minor girl dies of snakebite

Mohali: An eight-year-old girl died of snakebite at Kambali village on June 27. The girl, identified as Gurseerat Kaur, was rushed to the hospital where she breathed her last. The incident took place around 7 pm when the victim, a student of Class III, went to switch on the light in the verandah of her house. When she tried to switch on the light, her foot touched the table. The snake present under the table bit her. TNS

2 bikers snatch mobile phone

Chandigarh: Two motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly snatched a mobile phone in the city. Complainant Rai Singh of Mohali reported that the suspects snatched his mobile phone near the Sector 41 bus stop. A case has been registered. TNS

Kharar cricket academy win

Mohali: Champion’s Cricket Academy, Kharar, defeated Sunrise Cricket Academy, Zirakpur, by six wickets in the ongoing 1st Dinesh Verma Memorial U-19 Cricket Tournament. Batting first, Sunrise Cricket Academy scored 172 runs before getting all out in 37.4 overs. In reply, the Kharar outfit posted 174/4 in 37.1 overs. TNS

Woman attacked with toy pistol

Chandigarh: A woman of Sector 42 was injured after she was hit with a toy gun on her head by a neighbour. The victim has been identified as Rita. She stays on the ground floor, while the suspect, Vinit Narayan, resides on the second floor. The police said both had an argument over a money issue after which the suspect attacked her with the butt of a toy pistol. The victim was injured after which the suspect, along with his wife, escaped from the spot. The police said the newlywed couple had shifted to this house around two months ago. The police were informed and the victim rushed to the GMSH, Sector 16. The police are looking into the matter. TNS
