The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, on Friday conducted anti-plastic raids and awareness drives in various markets throughout the city.
The IEC team of the MC and sanitary inspectors created awareness among shopkeepers of Palika Bazaar and Sadar Market, Sector 19 here. The team also challaned shopkeepers for storing plastic bags in their shops and seized bags weighing about 25 kg.
The team created awareness to use 100 per cent compostable bags instead of plastic for their items and stressed the importance of recycling plastic waste to protect the environment.
‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ is the theme of June under the Swachh Bharat Mission against the use of plastic. The team created awareness on how plastic was a slow killer and how the city could become plastic-free.
