Party candidate attacked in Ph IX

Mohali/Zirakpur, Feb 12

Some BJP candidates were attacked and their campaigns were disrupted in the district today.

The BJP candidate from ward number 13 of Mohali, Ramesh Verma, was injured when five unidentified youths came in a car and hurled stones at him in Phase IX. Senior BJP leader KD Bhandari said, “We have lodged a complaint with the Mohali SSP and a case has been registered.”

In Zirakpur, a group of miscreants, claiming themselves to be farmers, disrupted the campaign of a BJP candidate, Neetika Sharma from ward number 21, in Savitry Enclave. The youths barged into a park where an election meeting was scheduled to be held and broke the public address system.

The BJP candidate from ward number 27 of Zirakpur, Mira Sharma, alleged that a group of miscreants abused her and obstructed her from campaigning today. “Posing as farmers, they have been harassing me in Shivalik Vihar for 10 days,” she said. — TNS
