Chandigarh, December 11

A large number of workers of the Chandigarh Congress today protested against the Citizenship Amendment Bill and burnt an effigy of the Modi government. Congress leaders, councillors and activists gathered at the Aroma light point in Sector 22 here and raised slogans against the Modi government.

Chandigarh Congress president Pradeep Chhabra said: “The Bill, being brought by the Modi government, is against the basic spirit of the Constitution because it violates equality. The government was destroying Article 14 of the Constitution”.

The Bill is against the democracy and the Constitution and is going to divide people. It is against the basic spirit of the Constitution of India as people of 6 religions from the neighbouring countries are being given relaxation to be granted Indian citizenship, but Muslims are not included in it.
