Ambala, January 22

Passengers at the Patiala railway station will now be able to enjoy the free Wi-Fi facility as the station is now live with free RailWire Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi facility at the station has been commissioned by RailTel for providing the free high-speed state-of-the-art internet experience to commuters.

The service built over the optical fiber network of RailTel is designed to offer high-speed broadband like experience to the users. Travellers at the station will now be able to easily stream a high definition video while waiting for trains, research their destination and download a book or a new game for their journey.

DC Sharma, DRM, Ambala Division, said the Wi-Fi services were being provided under ‘RailWire’ — the retail broadband initiative of RailTel.

RailWire Wi-Fi will be available for any user who has a smartphone with a working mobile connection for KYC considerations.

Giving details about RailWire Wi-Fi at railway stations, Puneet Chawla, CMD, RailTel said, “The users have to switch on the Wi-Fi mode in their smartphone and select the RailWire Wi-Fi network. After the RailWire homepage network automatically appears on the smartphone, the user has to enter his or her mobile number.

The user will get a one-time password (OTP) code in the form of an SMS in the message box. It has to be entered in the home page of RailWire. The users will be able to access the high-speed internet.”

Amritsar, Jalandhar City, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Beas, Firozpur Cantonment, Pathankot, Sirhind, Rajpura, Chakki Bank, Jalandhar Cantonment, Phagwara and Patiala railway stations of Punjab have the Wi-Fi facility.

The Ministry of Railways has started providing the high-speed Wi-Fi service at railway stations and has successfully completed the work of providing it at 750 stations across India with over 8 million unique users per month.
