Zirakpur: A youth was killed while his friend, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries after the motorcycle they were riding was reportedly hit by a car near the Zirakpur flyover here on Wednesday.



Zirakpur: A youth was killed while his friend, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries after the motorcycle they were riding was reportedly hit by a car near the Zirakpur flyover here on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Rahul Thakur and the injured as Arun Kumar, both residents of Yamunanagar. The police said the incident occurred when Rahul and Arun were going to Yamunanagar from Chandigarh on their motorbike. When the duo reached near the Zirakpur flyover, a car coming from the Chandigarh side hit their bike. Both of them were rushed to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where doctors declared Rahul brought dead. The police have registered a case at the Zirakpur police station. OC

Man held with stolen bike

Chandigarh: A New Delhi resident has been arrested with a stolen motorcycle. According to the police, the accused, identified as Tirlok Chand, was arrested at the Sector 24 light point while riding a stolen Bullet motorcycle. The bike was bearing a fake registration number. A case has been registered against the accused at the Sector 11 police station. The police have begun an investigation into it. TNS

National award for PGI doctor

Chandigarh: Dr Anil Bhansali of the PGI has been selected for Dr BC Roy National Award for the year 2017. He is being felicitated in the 'Eminent Medical Teacher and Researcher' category of the award constituted under the auspices of the National Medical Commission of India. For the past three decades, Dr Bhansali has been contributing towards medical science through fecund research paving the way for the betterment of persons with diabetes and endocrine disorders. He has guided numerous medical students, residents and practising physicians the art and science of endocrinology and diabetes. He has to his credit 500 research publications, which have been cited more than 12,000 times resulting in an h-index of 52, the highest among the endocrinologists in the country. TNS

Chandigarh: The results of the written test of 418 JBT posts have been declared. As many as 11,686 candidates appeared for the test held on January 27. The candidates can see results on recruit.nitttrchd.ac.in. The document verification process will be done shortly. — TNS

Hit by train, man dies

Dera Bassi: An unidentified man was killed after being hit by a train on the Ambala-Kalka railway line near Gholumajra village here on Tuesday evening. GRP sources said they got information around 7.30 pm that a body was lying near the railway track. After getting information, the team rushed to the spot and took the body into its custody. The GRP sources said the deceased is believed to be in mid-30s and is suspected to have been killed while crossing the railway line. The body has been kept in the mortuary at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, for identification. An inquest proceeding has been initiated into the matter. OC

Food samples collected

Ambala: A team of the food and drug administration took nine samples of different food items here on Wednesday. The samples of branded biscuits, toned milk, low-fat cream and salt were taken from Ambala City, samples of chicken were taken from a hotel in Ambala Cantonment, while samples of full cream milk, tea, milk and ghee were taken from a superstore in Ambala Cantonment. Food Safety Officer Subhash Chander said: “All samples will be sent to a food laboratory in Karnal for analysis.” TNS
