Compensation scheme for victims of sexual abuse

BATHINDA: The National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) has started Compensation Scheme-2018 for women victims of sexual abuse and other crimes.

The National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) has started Compensation Scheme-2018 for women victims of sexual abuse and other crimes.

In a press communique issued on Thursday, Mansa Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait said under the scheme, if any woman dies due to any crime, her kin would get a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to 10 lakh.

She said apart from this, there is a provision for compensation up to Rs 1 lakh to Rs 8 lakh in any kind of mental and physical incompetence or any kind of disability.

The Deputy Commissioner said any victim or her dependent could apply for compensation at the district level in the office of the District Legal Services Authority or could apply online at the web portal of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority at the state level.

She said for more information, the office of the District Legal Services Authority could be contacted.
