Bathinda, May 18
Taking strong exception to the violation of the Model Code of Conduct in place for elections, the Excise and Taxation Department, Punjab, on Saturday placed Excise Inspector Gursewak Singh of the Bathinda office under suspension with immediate effect.
While giving this information, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, Dr S Karuna Raju, said news and pictures of Gursewak Singh taking part in an election-related programme of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), in the presence of party chief Sukhbir Badal, had been published in newspapers, which was a gross violation of the poll code.
