An inspector with the Faridkot police allegedly committed suicide on Sunday by shooting himself with a service AK-47 rifle in his office here. The deceased has been identified as inspector Narinder Singh, in-charge of the CIA staff in Faridkot.

According to police sources, Narinder Singh was on election duty on Sunday. During his duty, he reached his CIA staff office, situated near the Faridkot bus stand in the evening and allegedly used his service AK-47 rifle to end his life.

Police personnel at the office heard a gunshot and rushed only to find blood oozing out from his head.

The city police was informed about the incident and Narinder Singh was taken to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Father of a son and a daughter, Narinder Singh was in-charge of CIA staff for the last over three months. While the police authorities denied making any comment about the cause of the death, sources revealed that the police were scrutinising the mobile phone details of the victim to get a hint about the cause of the incident.

The sources revealed that Narinder Singh was under stress after a youth was rounded up by the CIA staff from a gurdwara at Ratti Rori village in Faridkot on Saturday evening. There was a complaint against this youth, who belongs to Punjaban village of Lambi area in Muktsar, that he was creating disturbance at Ratti Rori village.

It is alleged that CIA staff released the youth in the wee hours on Sunday at the instance of a political leader. However, during the day time, relatives of the youth approached Narinder Singh. While CIA staff claimed that they had released the youth, but his relatives said that he never reached them and they wanted to know his whereabouts.
