Two vendors were shot at and one of them was left seriously injured here late on Monday night, the police said here today.

The seriously injured vendor, Gaurav (29), alias Gauri, of Ambala Cantonment, was rushed to the local Civil Hospital, from where he was referred to the PGI at Chandigarh. He was battling for life at the PGI, the officials said.

In his statement to the police, Gauri said after calling it a day, he, along with another local vendor Ashu, were going for dinner near the fish market in Ambala Cantonment around 12:30 am. “On our way, two armed youths waylaid us and fired a shot at me, which hit me in the right arm,” he revealed, while informing that the assailants also fired at Ashu besides firing a shot in the air before fleeing the spot.

He added that before running away, both the assailants threatened them with dire consequences if they reported the matter to the police.

“We have launched an investigation and are in the process of tracing the accused,” added the officials.
