Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva accused AAP of hypocrisy and undermining democracy amidst ongoing tensions between the two parties in the Delhi Assembly and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
He alleged, “It is well known how many times the Kejriwal-led government has suspended the entire opposition from the legislative body since 2015.”
He highlighted the case of Senior MLA Om Prakash Sharma, who was kept out of the Assembly for almost two years by the Kejriwal government. According to Sachdeva, the ruling AAP leaders have allegedly undermined democracy in both the Delhi Assembly and the MCD.
‘Centre won’t allow farmers’ stir in Delhi’
India’s democracy is in tatters. Everyone has the right to hold a peaceful protest. The way permission has been denied for Congress’ protest at Jantar Mantar is condemnable. If the Centre is not allowing Delhi residents to protest at Jantar Mantar, they aren’t going to allow farmers to protest here. — Arvinder Singh Lovely, DPCC president
He accused CM of obstructing the question hour in the Assembly for the past nine years, depriving legislators and the public of their rights. He also criticised Kejriwal for allegedly obstructing the elections of statutory committees in the MCD.
MCD LoP flays govt over unsealing of shops
Meanwhile, Raja Iqbal Singh, LoP in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and former Mayor, has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of engaging in double standards regarding the unsealing of shops despite orders from the Judicial Committee. He said, “Despite the orders of the Judicial Committee, AAP’s double standards have been exposed.”
The sealing, initiated in the Defence Colony market in December 2017, was carried out on the directions of the monitoring committee for alleged violation of building bylaws.
He said, “While the AAP claims to be working towards unsealing the shops, municipal officials, purportedly acting on AAP’s instructions, have filed petitions in court against the Judicial Committee’s orders, hindering the unsealing process.”
