New Delhi, January 28
Delhi witnessed a mix of partly cloudy skies and shallow fog on Sunday, with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 18°C to a minimum of 6°C. Despite a slight decrease in temperature, the Air Quality Index (AQI) remained concerning, holding steady at 365, in the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday.
There was a drop in both maximum and minimum temperatures by 3°C and 2°C, respectively. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a mainly clear sky on Monday with shallow to moderate fog in the morning. The temperature is projected to fluctuate between 22°C and 7°C.
The IMD has predicted a transition from partly cloudy to mainly clear skies over the next two days, with a reverse trend on January 31 — shifting from mainly clear to partly cloudy.
Shallow to moderate fog is expected in the mornings for the next three days, with a possibility of drizzle on January 31 and the likelihood of very light rain or thundershowers on February 1.
Despite the overall AQI in Delhi staying within the 300 mark, several localities have already surpassed the hazardous 400 mark. These include Shadipur (400), Punjabi Bagh (402), Burari Crossing (403), Rohini (404), RK Puram (409), Wazirpur (415), Jahangirpuri (418), Anand Vihar (424) and Nehru Nagar (439).
In the neighbouring National Capital Region (NCR), air quality conditions ranged from ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’. Faridabad and Gurugram were in the ‘poor’ category, with AQI levels at 269 and 284, respectively. The rest of the areas, including Noida (313), Ghaziabad (317) and Greater Noida (344), continued to experience ‘very poor’ air quality.
